Big Bang Theory: Narrowcasting and the creation of New Media Markets

Summary:
           The Big Bang Theory is a popular sitcom that shows how narrowcasting is the new way to market. The Big Bang Theory has become extraordinarily successful because it has moved away from broadcasting, appeals to the 18-49-age range, and it is relatable to ordinary people.

Question:
What new and old questions do media technologies raise regarding the impact of media on society?

Summary of Topic:
The iPad has innovated new avenues for media to be viewed, shared, and created. The iPad has created a platform for mobile cloud computing, as well as an infrastructure for mobile apps, beyond what existed already from the smartphone market. The iPad has now been on the market for close to 5 years, and its impact is still being felt in almost every work sector, the most prominent being education. Through integrating a camera and audio recorder into the device, as well as allowing for touch screen technology, the iPad allows users to experience media in places never before thought of, as well as allowing users to generate multi-media content easier than ever.

Summary:
The iPhone is currently the top selling smart phone on the market with only being around since 2007. Apple Inc. has been able to improve the model of the iPhone based on competitors’ products and wants of the consumers. With Apple’s Innovation not only has revolution of the iPhone effected the economy, but also has changed the view of how society functions.

Summary: The challenges and issues faced by Freedom of Speech and Obscenity come from the legal interpretation of the terms. In today’s Digital Age, it is tough to create a common definition of obscenity that everyone could agree on. We used Jenkins v. Georgia as an example of an issue that surfaced when trying to establish if certain content is protected under the Freedom of Speech Amendment.
